By now, you may have heard or read news articles about the tragic fire that completely destroyed our dorm style retreat building, The Shed, on October 15, 2015. This was our first retreat building built on the property in 1993. It had 9 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a small kitchen and a large lovely pine wrapped meeting space. The building and its contents are a total loss. There was also damage to the adjacent shed that housed the electronics for our wind generator. None of the surrounding grass land or any other building were affected and no one was injured – and for this we are very thankful. The Shed was fully insured and now over 20 years after it was originally built, we are discerning what and how to rebuild. We will be exploring possible ways to make more efficient use of space, maybe have a larger kitchen, more bathrooms, possibly relocate the main office, and also consider other possibilities that will continue to best fit the educational mission of Shalom Hill Farm and our ministry of retreat hospitality.
Thank you to the many who have expressed concern, support, and encouragement. Some have inquired about giving donations online or by credit card and those can be made through Razoo or GiveMN.org, as Shalom Hill Farm has pages on each of those sites. Again, we are deeply grateful for all your support and concern.
